Eugene holding forum on CSI funding, Lane County downgraded to lowest COVID risk level
Community tells City to move CSI funding to support unhoused
The City of Eugene is still seeking feedback on Community Safety Initiative. In addition to its survey that is open until 5 PM, March 31, the City is holding two listening sessions. The City held the first of its two listening sessions last week, where several community members spoke out about putting money towards the homeless instead of police.
Activist are holding a phone zap on Monday at noon ahead of the second listening session to tell the City to provide funding to housing instead of the police. The City's second and last listening session for the CSI takes place from 6-8 PM Tuesday.
Oregon downgrades Lane County to lowest COVID risk level
On Friday Oregon moved Lane to "Lower Risk Level" on Friday the lowest of the risk levels. At this Level the State of Oregon opens up some activities and eases capacity limits for other activities. The Oregon Health Authorities guidance says counties in Lower Risk Level can have limited office work available. The state also is moving up the capacity for stores to 75%.
Additionally last week Gov. Brown announced that Oregon residents with underlying conditions aged 16 to 44, and frontline workers as defined by the CDC will be eligible for the vaccine on April 5. This is an accelerated timeline from the state as it has received more vaccinations and counties have moved through their allotment speedily. Oregon is set to make everyone 16 and older eligible on May 1, however counties can move up to allowing it on April 26 if they apply and the state deems it ready.
The County has created a new sign-ups portal, doing away with the need for pre-registering for the vaccine. Those that are eligible can now schedule an appointment for their shot through
